Stay Near Sinigaglia: Your Base for Como 1907's First Champions League Season

By LoreLake Holidays  ·  June 2026  ·  5 min read

It finally happened. Como 1907 — a club that was playing in Serie D just seven years ago — has qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in its 119-year history. The world is coming to Lake Como this season. If you are one of them, here is why where you stay matters as much as the match itself.

A Stadium Unlike Any Other in Europe

Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia is not just a football ground — it is arguably the most beautiful stadium setting in European football. Built directly on the shores of Lake Como, it has the water behind one goal and the Alps rising above the grandstand. On a Champions League night, under floodlights, with the lake black and still beyond the south end, it is something you will remember long after the final whistle.

Good to knowThe stadium holds around 13,000 fans. Champions League fixtures will sell out fast — buy tickets the moment they go on sale at comofootball.com

Why Staying Close to the Stadium Changes Everything

Most visitors to Lake Como stay in the towns further up the lake — Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio. Beautiful, yes. But on a Champions League matchday, you will be sharing ferries and buses with thousands of other fans, arriving late and leaving the area stressed.

Our apartments in Rebbio sit about 5 minutes by car (or 10 by bus) from Stadio Sinigaglia, on the quiet southern edge of Como. A quick hop to the match, an easy run back afterwards — no fighting for lakefront ferries or taxis with thousands of other fans. Easy parking, the A9 motorway close by, and the lake just down the hill.

Local tipThe streets around Sinigaglia fill up 2 hours before kickoff. Head down early, park or hop off the bus, stop at a bar on Via Borgo Vico for a pre-match Aperol, and soak it in.

The Story Behind the Club

If you are travelling specifically for Champions League football, you owe it to yourself to understand what makes Como 1907 remarkable. In 2016 the club went bankrupt and was forced to restart in the fourth division. Three years later, Indonesian billionaires from the Hartono family acquired it for €800,000. Six years after that, Como are selling out every match, generating tens of millions in annual revenue, and competing at the highest level in European football.

Coach Cesc Fàbregas — yes, the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder — has built something that defies conventional football logic. Thierry Henry is a minority shareholder. Nico Paz, linked with a Real Madrid buy-back clause, has been one of Serie A's most exciting players. This is not a typical Champions League club. And that is exactly what makes it worth seeing.

Make It More Than a Match Weekend

Arriving in Como just for a Tuesday night Champions League game would be a missed opportunity. The lake, the mountains, the food, the history — this is one of the great short-break destinations in Europe, and most visitors who come for a match end up extending their stay.

From our Rebbio base you are a short drive or bus ride from the Villa Olmo lakefront promenade, the ferry to Cernobbio, and the Brunate funicular for panoramic views — or you can head up to the wooded Baradello hill right above the neighbourhood for a walk with the whole lake at your feet. Combine a Champions League fixture with two or three days on the lake and you have the kind of trip people talk about for years.

Local tipBook as early as possible. Champions League weekends on Lake Como will be the most sought-after accommodation nights of the 2026-27 season.
